Many women in the UK are restricted in accessing legal advice and support. Barriers are very often financial (compounded by the 2013 cuts to Legal Aid) or might include factors such as a No Recourse to Public Funds status.
These barriers prevent vulnerable women from accessing any form of legal support or recourse, or result in devastating experiences of the legal system, especially for victims of gender-based or domestic abuse.
Rights of Women's national and local services aim to provide women with the legal advice and information they need to understand and use the law and their legal rights, whether this be immigration law, the family justice system or the law on forced marriage.
Rights of Women also work to improve the law for women and increase women's access to justice.
Treebeard provides multi-year funding to support Rights of Women in their efforts to help victims of domestic abuse who are going through the private family court system.
